It is hard to believe that we have only been home for 2 months and we have driven over 7000 kilometers since we have returned home. What?! Yes, it is true, it appears that we just can't sit still and we may need therapy!
We have had the luxury of mixing business with pleasure and we were invited to a home party for Champa Clothing on Vancouver Island so we were off to Port Alberni for a couple days and we had an absolute blast with some amazing people and a great party! We then visited our favourite campground on the west coast at Bella Pacifica in Tofino.

And you know we love the travellers and hippies, such colourful, relaxed people! This couple was adorable as they admired the foliage on the beach while picking shells. Thanks for the chat and hope your garden works for you!
After a couple days of beach living on Canada's wet coast we packed up (it did rain every day but we also had some great sunny breaks). We will take any weather thrown at us at this beautiful place. Time to visit Denman Island for the first time. Denman is a small island off the east coast of Vancouver Island and is a very short ferry ride to this Island paradise.
We were so excited to meet up with our new friends Shayne and Tracy on their permaculture farm. The Ruby Slipper Ranch is a Farm Stay and can be found on Airbnb. Shayne, Tracy and friends have developed a beautiful, organic, self sufficient farm and they are a great expample for anybody wanting to know where their food comes from and what they are eating. We loved our time with you guys and cannot wait to come visit you and your friends again!
After an afternoon touring the farm and hanging out with our hosts we wandered down to the beach and chilled out for a couple hours. Could you imagine living like this? We are so grateful for people like Tracy and Shayne who have the passion and courage to live their lives by their convictions. You guys are a great example to us and we thank you so much!
When you visit the Ruby Slipper Ranch we hope that you are lucky enough to visit on a Tuesday and enjoy their Pot Luck dinner with their friends and family. We had so much fun and it was great putting the sun to bed with such great people while sitting around the fire pit. Yup, we sure did enjoy our time here! Our kind of people and an inspiration!
Thanks again Shayne and Tracy!
Part II
Well, we drove home to meet up with our son Carson and his girlfriend Cortney to host a Steeped Tea tea party and what a great time that was! Holy cow has tea ever come a long ways. I especially liked the tea that Benjilynn mixed with wine! Yeah baby!!! Now if we could only smoke it then we may be onto something great... Over to you hippies for that next great creation LOL. Smokeable tea...
After a couple days of hanging out with the kids and watching them pack up to drive home to Spruce Grove, Benjilynn and I decided to drive to Las Vegas for the week. Yeah, I know a little crazy but hey, why not??
We were packed up in 2 hours and on the road! The drive was only 18 hours each way and we split it up into 2 days down and 2 days back, which left us 4 nights in Vegas!
Check out some of the views from the car, incredible scenery and highly recommended if you can spare the time. We will definitley do this drive again!
The drive just kept getting prettier and prettier the further south we drove. I loved the colours of the mountains and couldn't help but think about the old westerns we used to watch, I think I even saw an outlaw gang ride through one of the canyons ahead of us...
One of the deciding factors for this trip was the hotel we found through booking.com (which we use a lot!). Tuscany Suites had an 8.6 rating a great pool, casino, bar, Italian restaurant, 2 blocks from the strip and a king size suite for $24 USD per night... WHAT?! What an incredible deal! So this was just meant to be, how could we afford to stay home, it would cost us more to stay home than go to Vegas... OK, Benjilynn! I take that back hahaha. But really! We had to go!
Unfortunately we will not be able to share ANYTHING else that happenned on this trip as we will not be the first peope to break the #1 Las Vegas rule, what happens there, stays there!
Needless to say we had an absolute blast and the price didn't hurt either! All totalled we spent less than $500 for 4 nights, room, food, drinks, taxes and an All You Can Eat crab dinner!!!
Sounds like we should start planning the next trip to Vegas sooner than later!
Sorry no selfies for SK, they were inappropriate! LOL
Until the next journey... maybe North West Territories? Germany? Oh yeah, fishing trip in Port Renfrew is coming up quickly! Salmon and halibut fish fry at our house in Calgary on Saturday, August 13.
Are you coming??? Hope to see you there!
On the business front we are so excited to have another Champa Home party in Spruce Grove on June 4. Can't wait to see you guys, love you and get ready to put the sun to bed! (Mr. Accountant, is this enough business talk to write off the costs of this site and our Vegas trip???)
